How We Helped Sofer Advisors Become A Cited Source In ChatGPT

Sofer Advisors already had the expertise, professional credentials, and client reputation. The problem was that its expertise was not consistently visible when people searched for answers about business valuation, DCF analysis, goodwill, professional certifications, and industry economics.

Over nine months, we turned that expertise into a structured library of 298 valuation guides.

By August 2026, Sofer ranked for 1,155 organic keywords, held 298 page-one rankings, and was being cited directly inside ChatGPT answers.

The client

Sofer Had The Expertise. The Market Could Not Always Find It.

Sofer Advisors is a business valuation and M&A advisory firm founded by David Hern, CPA, ABV, ASA.

Headquartered in Atlanta, the firm also operates from Nashville, Orlando, Louisville, and Richmond. David holds both ABV and ASA credentials, and the firm has earned Inc. 5000 recognition and more than 180 five-star Google reviews.

The credibility was already there.

The challenge was making that expertise visible earlier in the research process, before someone searched for Sofer Advisors by name.

The starting position

Sofer Was Missing From The Questions Its Market Was Asking

Business owners, financial professionals, analysts, and referral partners increasingly use search engines and AI assistants to research complex valuation questions.

They ask:

  • What is my business worth?
  • How does a DCF valuation work?
  • What is a reasonable perpetuity growth rate?
  • How is goodwill impairment recorded?
  • Is a valuation credential worth pursuing?
  • How much are businesses in a specific industry worth?

Sofer had the expertise to answer those questions. It did not yet have enough structured content covering the full range of topics its market was researching.

As a result, generic explainer websites, industry organizations, community forums, and other publishers occupied much of the available answer space.

Sofer was most visible to people who already knew the firm. We needed to make its expertise discoverable to people who knew the question but not yet the company.

What we did

We Turned Sofer's Expertise Into A Searchable Valuation Library

We began publishing for Sofer Advisors on 12 November 2025.

Over the next nine months, we created 298 guides covering valuation methods, accounting concepts, professional credentials, financial assumptions, transaction questions, and industry-specific economics.

This was not a one-time content push. We maintained a sustained publishing cadence that expanded Sofer's coverage across the wider valuation topic area.

The number of guides mattered, but volume alone was not the strategy.

Every guide followed a repeatable structure designed to make the information useful to readers, understandable to search engines, and easier for generative platforms to retrieve and cite.

Content structure

We Built Every Guide To Be Clear, Useful, And Citable

01

Answer-First Openings

Each guide answers the main question near the beginning, so readers reach the information they came for without working through a long introduction.

02

Question-Led Headings

Sections reflect the follow-up questions people commonly ask in Google, ChatGPT, and other research environments.

03

Numbered Key Takeaways

A structured summary makes the central points easy to scan, understand, and retrieve.

04

Multi-Question FAQ Sections

Related questions are answered on the same page, covering more of the research journey without breaking connected information into shallow posts.

05

Credible Supporting Sources

Authorities such as the IRS, AICPA, USPAP, and WIPO are cited where they strengthen definitions, standards, methods, or technical claims.

06

Named, Credentialed Authorship

Guides are published under David Hern, CPA, ABV, ASA, connecting the information to a real valuation professional.

07

Valid Structured Data

Each guide includes structured data that helps search systems interpret the page and its relationship to the wider Sofer Advisors website.

Together, these elements turned 298 separate guides into one connected valuation library.

AI search visibility

ChatGPT Began Citing Sofer's Own Guides

The content did more than build visibility in traditional search. By August 2026, Sofer's guides were being retrieved and cited when ChatGPT answered specific questions about valuation methods, financial concepts, accounting treatment, professional credentials, and industry economics.

Direct citations

11

38

These measures overlap and should not be added together.

The key result is that Sofer's own pages were no longer sitting outside the answer. They had become part of the material ChatGPT used to build it.

Organic search visibility

The Same Library Built A Wider Search Footprint

The 298-guide library also expanded Sofer's visibility across Google search. By August 2026, the website ranked for 1,155 organic keywords in the United States.

Top 20

553

Keywords ranking within the top 20 results.

The ranking footprint carried an estimated equivalent paid search value of approximately $7,990 per month, or roughly $95,900 per year.

That figure is not revenue, profit, advertising spend, or confirmed advertising savings. It reflects the estimated cost of acquiring comparable keyword visibility through paid search. Commercial valuation searches can also cost considerably more than the sitewide average — at the time of measurement, the estimated cost per click for "business valuation services" was $30.45.

The more important change was the size of Sofer's search footprint. Hundreds of new terms created more opportunities for the firm to appear before someone already knew its name.

Nine-month change

From Limited Topic Visibility To A Citable Valuation Library

Before We Started

Sofer already had:

  • Strong valuation expertise
  • Recognized professional credentials
  • A substantial client-review profile
  • A multi-market presence
  • A strong real-world reputation

What it did not have was enough structured content covering the full range of questions its market was asking. That limited the firm's ability to appear during non-branded research across Google and ChatGPT.

After Nine Months

Sofer had:

  • 298 new valuation guides
  • 1,155 organic ranking keywords
  • 676 newly ranking keywords
  • 298 page-one rankings
  • 553 keywords in the top 20
  • 46 measured appearances in ChatGPT answers
  • 11 direct ChatGPT citations
  • A connected knowledge library covering the wider valuation topic area

Sofer's expertise could now enter the research journey before a potential client, referral partner, or financial professional searched for the firm by name.

The difference

We Did Not Build A Large Blog Archive. We Built One Valuation Library.

01

Publishing Was Sustained

The website did not receive a brief burst of content followed by months of inactivity. We kept expanding the topic library throughout the engagement.

02

Every Guide Answered A Defined Question

The content was built around specific questions rather than broad topics that left the reader still searching for the answer.

03

Related Guides Supported One Another

The library connected valuation methods, financial concepts, industries, credentials, accounting questions, and common decision points. Each new guide added context to the wider body of work.

04

The Content Had A Clear Expert Behind It

Publishing under David Hern's name and credentials connected the information to an identifiable valuation specialist.

05

Important Claims Were Supported

Recognized external authorities strengthened the definitions, standards, and technical information used throughout the guides.

06

The Pages Were Built For Retrieval

Clear answers, question-led sections, takeaways, FAQs, authorship, and structured data made the content easier to interpret and reuse.

The strategy worked because the individual pages were designed as parts of a larger system.

What we achieved

Sofer's Expertise Now Appears Before Buyers Search For Sofer

In nine months, we helped Sofer move from limited topic coverage to a broad, structured presence across business valuation search.

The firm now appears across more than 1,100 organic keywords. Hundreds of those terms are new. Nearly 300 rank on page one. Sofer's own guides are also being cited inside ChatGPT answers.

That gives the firm more opportunities to be found while someone is still defining the problem, researching the options, or deciding whose expertise to trust.

This case study reports search visibility and AI citations. It does not present these figures as website traffic, enquiries, or revenue.

Start With The Visibility Gap, Then Choose The Work

Sofer needed a larger and more structured body of content around the questions its market was already asking. Another organization may have a different gap.

Some need clearer first-party content. Others need stronger authority, more accurate positioning, or a better understanding of where competitors are being recommended instead.
